Armed with the belief that music does not come from music but from life. The job you hate, what we learn of love, why the worlds gone wrong... Sometimes, how to fix it. Music comes from the experience of living not the recording studio. When a person writes a book we learn about ourselves and that person. When the personality is gone and only the professional writer remains we somehow get something less. I guess we all, to some degree, become caricatures of ourselves eventually. Why are most of the great albums made before the millionaires jet off to the Bahamas to spend 18 months making a new one. These are just some of my concerns. Indeed, I must ask my friend and musician, Billy Jenkins, if he has written any new songs lately. For myself, I'm torn between writing sweet love songs or doom and gloom odes about the world going down the tubes.

Talking of art and Billy Jenkins I must give you the link to his 'Songs of Praise' myspace space. He has recently played a series of gigs with a wonderful line-up including drums, tuba, tromebone, sax, violin and his guitar. Art and Blues crash into one another to create an expressionist blues form that demands a lot of you but will give you much much more in return. Recorded live these few songs will give you a taste of what is possible. BillyJenkinsSoP@myspace

The next addition to the Art Of Blues will be mp3s featuring recent live performances and an exhibition of paintings and drawings from my private collection.
In the meantime, I will attempt to escape my studio and find life beyond these walls and find out if there is more to sing about than love and doom. |
